AL-208

In 2008, Allon will release results of a Phase II clinical trial evaluating the safety, tolerability and effect of AL-208 as a prevention for the mild cognitive impairment (MCI) resulting from ischemic damage during coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG).

Trial results will also indicate AL-208’s potential as a treatment for the ischemic damage resulting from stroke.

The Phase II trial is a placebo-controlled, double-blind, evaluation of a single dose of AL-208, administered to patients prior to CABG surgery. The trial will measure AL-208’s impact on the level of MCI suffered by these patients post-surgery.

AL-208 has both neurotrophic and neuroprotectant activity. AL-208 may confer neuroprotection by interacting with microtubules, critical components of the neurons and supporting cells. Results of administration of AL-208 in several animal models indicate that AL-208 may confer at least 14 days of neuroprotection and maintenance of cognitive function following acute trauma.
